New Zealand Wood Industry Training School

NZ wood industry stakeholders asked FITEC to conduct an Industry Training School feasibility study. This included investigating potential international training school models and benchmarking best practise. Objectives include providing a recognised entry point into industry, promoting career pathways and delivery of quality training that meets the need of the employers.

BERL REPORT - Forest Industry Training Requirements to 2011
There was a strong response to the BERL FITEC Survey 2008, representing probably 50% to 60% of the industry. Some of the key findings from the Survey and review of the forest industry are:
• 37% of all firms said they are likely to expand in the next five years.
• Projections of additional employees needed show that approximately 600 to 1,000 additional people will be needed each year.
• Replacing employee turnover requires a further 4,000 people per year.

NZ Environmental Code of Practice for Plantation Forestry

The E CoP is an essential tool for anyone involved in forest management. Developed by the NZFOA, and endorsed by other major industry organistions, it is designed to help forest managers, contractors and their staff take into account the many factors which influence forest management and operations.
